A Lifelong Passion for Building

My journey into the construction industry began in a new housing estate in Melbourne. As a child, I was drawn to the rhythm of progress on building sites, the transformation of new blocks of land, into homes full of life and potential.

Evolving Through Craftsmanship

I started my career as a wall and floor tiler, working hands-on and learning the importance of precision and pride in workmanship. Later, I refined my skills as a joinery carpenter for a luxury boat manufacturer, where attention to detail was non-negotiable. A standard I’ve carried with me ever since.

Why I Chose to Do It Differently

When I returned to tiling as a business owner, I quickly became frustrated by the lack of care and coordination from other trades on site. Rather than accept poor standards, I expanded my skills, overseeing entire renovations to ensure everything met the same level of finish I demanded of myself. This led me to pursue my builder’s licence and transition into full-scale renovation and project management, where I now draw on over 35 years of hands-on experience across multiple trades.

Why Salt & Slate?

Salt & Slate Renovations is a reflection of that journey. The name itself speaks to the Gold Coast, the salt of the sea and the slate of the hinterland, but also to the way we work.
